E-ZPass

The E-ZPass is the Northeastern United States version of the transponder box that attaches to the interior windshield of vehicles and communicates with toll booths as cars pass beneath the booth. The E-ZPass allows drivers from Virginia to Maine the ability to drive through the E-ZPass lane on toll roads without having to stop and pay the toll fee with cash.

Drivers can use their E-ZPass in each of the 14 states represented by the Interagency Group. These RFID transponders are operated by battery; toll booths are equipped with readers and the two communicate to pay the toll booth fee when the booth recognizes the transponder.

Everyone that uses an E-ZPass transponder has a unique code that is attached to a credit or debit card. Users can designate a specific amount of funds to be attached to the E-ZPass at all times or choose to have the E-ZPass automatically refill to a certain dollar amount each time the balance becomes too low.

BESTPASS is completely interoperable on these facilities with the same or enhanced discounts and services.
